The game takes place on the planet Atys. Ryzom features four playable races, Matis, Tryker, Fyros and Zorai and Three non playable races, Kitin, The Kami and Karavan. There are no classes or overall character levels in Ryzom. Character gain levels in independent fields of weapon oriented fighting, crafting, magic , and harvesting. 10 Skill points are awarded for each level gained. The skill points can be spent for character improvements. Abilities are built of components called stanzas. Harvesting and crafting: Crafting components in Ryzom come from corpses of killed animals or hidden deposits. Different components provide varying benefits to to the crafted object. Harvesting is a complex and can require team work.
